Covid-19 spl parcel train to travel through the area on 1 April Nagpur News

Nagpur: The Indian Railways are geared towards meeting the demand for critical goods by increasing the number of parcel trains.

Parcel trains are essential for the rapid mass transport of drugs, medical supplies, masks, food products, etc. across the country.

Eight parcel trains have been running on critical routes since 29 March. The railroads have now agreed to expand them to another 20 lines. One of the special trains will pass via Nagpur on 1 April. Schedule of another parcel train between Kalyan-Santragachi has yet to be confirmed.

The Covid-19 special will launch from Kakaria (Gujarat) on 31 March and enter Nagpur on 1 April at 9:00 p.m. via Jalgaon and Bhusawal. There will be stoppages in Gondia, Durg, Raipur, Bilaspur, Jharsuguda, Tata Nagar, Kharagpur and Sankrail (Kolkata).

“Railways is providing its unimpeded parcel train services for the transport of critical goods and other goods required to meet the needs of people in the wake of Covid-19,” said Central Railway spokesperson SG Rao.

Both the Central Railway and the SECR are carrying out their own plans to operate these parcel trains. They reach out to prospective clients through various forms of communication, including ads.

Such facilities can be used by industrial houses, corporations, any interested parties, organizations and individuals. Interested parties can approach the parcel office for registration.

Meanwhile, SECR has started a quarantine facility with 11 beds in its civil defence hostel in Motibagh for suspected coronavirus patients.

“Our control office is working round-the-clock to run freight trains and is also preparing an empty balancing of passenger trains, so that when passenger rains start connection rakes are available at originating stations,” said SECR DCM Anurag Singh.

As mentioned by TOI, the Central Railway, Nagpur, is converting the entire rake of 24 coaches to retain Covid-19 suspects and patients. On Saturday, the Railway Board also asked the zones to hire contracted paramedical staff on the basis that they would not surpass the approved intensity of the system.

Since the Railway Board expects an increase in the number of coronavirus cases, the divisions have also been required to employ either retired paramedical personnel or to make new appointments.

Railway guards contributing 2-day salary The All India Guards Council (AIGC), a registered trade union representing Indian Railway guards, has agreed to donate Rs65 crore to the PM-Cares Fund to fight against Covid-19. About 32,000 guards are going to donate their 2 days pay. The balance is to be recovered from the salaries of April and May. “Considering discharge of their duties under the most defamous conditions of service and the possibility of viruses, freight train guards have also come forward to contribute,” said SK Shukla, AIGC chairman.
