Follow IAP recommendations to promote a healthy lifestyle for children: Doctors

Nagpur: Pediatrists in India drew up and published Indian recommendations on unhealthy foods in October 2019 after more than a decade of adopting international standards and observing local food habits. Now, the national implementation of these recommendations is required. According to veteran pediatrician Dr. Piyush Gupta, president-elect of the Indian Association of Pediatrics (IAP) on Sunday, parents, schools, and government should come together for this job.

“In Indian children the consumption of junk foods, ultra-processed foods, nutritionally unhealthy foods, caffeinated/colored/carbonated products, and sugar-sweetened foods/beverages is rife. IAP has coined the new’ JUNCS’ acronym for all such foods, “said Dr. Gupta, who headed the IAP research team that issued these recommendations.

“Initially we recommended a ban on the sale of JUNCS foods in and near school canteens. We have also recommended ensuring healthy snacks and meals are available and affordable. This must be taken further by helping schools and government authorities, “he said.

Dr. Gupta delivered the late Dr. DG Gan oration sponsored by the Nagpur Chapter of the Academy of Pediatrics (AOP). He talked about the latest IAP guidelines regarding junk food, fruit juice, and energy drinks. During this process, Dr. Shubhada Khirwadkar was elected as president while Dr. Mustafa Ali was appointed as secretary of the chapter of AOP Nagpur.

“Not only parents and schools but also many pediatrists were unaware of last year’s IAP guidelines. Such guidelines are appropriate and most essential for our children’s healthy lifestyles, “Dr. Khirwadkar said.

Padmashri Dr. Rani Bang previously spoke about responsible parenting in modern times. She appealed to the parents to avoid being a part of the rat race for their children. “Rat race winners will only remain rats throughout their lives and will never become tigers or lions,” she said.

The event was attended by AOP Patron Dr. Uday Bodhankar, President (2019) Dr. Ravindra Bhelonde, Secretary Mahesh Turale, Vice-President Dr. Vinky Rughwani of the Maharashtra Medical Council (MMC), and pediatricians from across Vidarbha.

The revised prices of petrol and diesel offer a surprise

Everything is becoming expensive over time. Not only household goods or food items, but also oil and fuel costs. Nevertheless, today the prices of petrol and diesel are poor. They remain unchanged across the country’s metro cities. In Bengaluru, the price of petrol is Rs 74.34 per litre, while in Mumbai it is Rs 77.56 per litre. Delhi has the lowest price of petrol at Rs 71.89 per litre, while Chennai costs about Rs 74.68 per litre.

The diesel prices for different cities range from Rs 64 to Rs 69 per litre. Diesel is priced at Rs 67.75 in Mumbai, while in Bengaluru it is priced at Rs 68.27 for every litre produced. Chennai, too, is priced at Rs 68.27 per litre. Delhi is again witnessing the lowest price of diesel at Rs 64.65 per litre. Petroleum and diesel prices are checked on a daily basis by oil companies. The fuel prices are updated every day at 6 a.m.

The increase in fuel prices depends on the price of the foreign crude oil and the U.S. dollar exchange rate. Everyone will see an increase in petrol and diesel rates in April as the latest BS-VI emission standards come into force. The increase in oil prices has led Brent to win a straight day for the seventh time in a row. In the oil market, oil prices are rising globally. As a result, the barrel has also become costly.

Mayor Intervenes The Irregularities in Cement Road Works

The present state of Nagpur appears to be grim with the ongoing construction of cement roads in different parts of the city. However, this was meant to make the city smart and rich in infrastructure, but the corruption that appears to have been seen in the system has led to irregularities in the construction of cement roads in Nagpur in the city. This has begun to haunt the Nagpur people in a great way, as it has become the cause of accidents in the city.

Now, with this grim situation, the city mayor seems to have entered the scene asking for a cement road survey of the city’s irregularities. He has been receiving updates on the violations and irregularities in the work of local corporations in different parts of the city. He raised the issue at the annual meeting of the General Body. To take up the issue, Mr. Satish Holay, the current member of the BJP Led PWD Department Committee, shall raise this issue.

He claimed that the civic body and the people involved in the construction of the roads had not carried out the work in accordance with the standards laid down by the IRC or the Indian Road Congress. There seemed to be a very heated debate on the issue of the width of the cement road, along with other issues. The AGM also suggested that the opposition leader Tanaji Wanve should stop the payments to the contractors who had been hand and glove to the local authorities involved in road construction.

Nagpur Metro Shops Find Takers

Nagpur: While Nagpur Metro ridership may not be spectacular, its stations are finding takers in the commercial space. This may help to boost ridership. A Metro official said 11 commercial spaces have either been leased or bids received for them so far.

The Institute of Engineers Metro station has launched a coaching program. Metro officials are delighted with the fact that many students use Metro to reach the class.

Naivedyam Group has also leased a shop at Lokmanya Nagar Metro station. A bid for a shop was received at Institution of Engineers, two for Rani Jhansi Square station, one for Subhash Nagar and one for Lokmanya Nagar each. Mother Dairy has purchased three shops at stations in Jai Prakash Nagar, Khapri and Airport. A further offer for a shop in Jai Prakash Nagar was issued.

The stores were rented for nine years. The rent is based on per square feet and depends on the station’s location.

The largest commercial realty project for Metro is the traffic and transport management center (TTMC) across from Yeshwant Stadium. It will have a tower on 25 floors, and two on 19 floors. There will be afoot overbridge linking the TTMC to Sitabuldi station.

Metro had floated bids to develop the project on a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) basis but did not get a good response because of a real estate slump. It has now prepared to construct a new revenue model.

MahaMetro plans to earn revenue from non-ticket sources by more than 50%. Most of this would come from commercial space leasing and commercial and residential property sales. Such ventures are years away, though. Many of them are yet to be designed. The slump in the real estate sector has hindered the agency’s plans.

While private companies are getting a good response from the co-branding of Metro stations. The last day to send bids is February 25, and afterward, the exact number will be known. Under this system, a Metro station will have the name of the private agency paying MahaMetro royalty.

Protest at lawyers push to switch 3 imp PILs to Mumbai

Nagpur: City lawyers strongly protested on Friday that two significant Public Interest Litigations (PILs) were moved to the Mumbai headquarters of Bombay high court. The lawyers are already at loggerheads with outgoing Chief Justice (CJ) Pradeep Nandrajog over the sudden transfer to Aurangabad of Zaka Haq justice, which was considered “unnecessary.” The cases were transferred on CJ’s directives by the HC registry, the lawyers argued.

While defining the move as “shocking and deliberate,” the lawyers sent a request to President Gauri Venkatraman of the High Court Bar Association (HCBA), asking her to convene a meeting of the general body on the “serious” issue immediately and to initiate necessary action. Unable to contact Venkatraman while Secretary Prafulla Khubalkar did not pick up calls.

Lawyers challenged the reason behind the move of the three PILs to Mumbai. Furthermore, there was no demand from any party concerned, as in the case of NDCCB, where the alleged kingpin Sanjay Agrawal had filed a request for the case to be moved to Mumbai. “HCBA’s suo motu PIL was concerned with the construction of a new annex building for HC administration offices and staff, as well as lawyers, in the city. We don’t understand the purpose of forwarding the case to Mumbai, “they said.

The move came as a surprise for some who pleaded for the PILs. “They didn’t even take care of making our intimate on the transfer. There is no denying the fact that it is the prerogative of the CJ, but there should be some reasoning for it.

I would like to ask them if they think that judges at the Nagpur Bench are not sufficiently competent to decide on such matters, which are also related to the city. The HCBA should now strongly address the issue Endorsing him, Bhandarkar, who pleaded in one of the transferred PILs for petitioner Manoj Sable, said the HC regularly passed specific orders as a result of which various court infrastructure was strengthened. “Transfer news came like a bolt out of the blue.

The whole legal fraternity is totally stunned and visibly disturbed. For the lawyers, it is very demotivating, as they put a lot of effort into gathering the material and studying the subject, “he said.

The request also signed by former HCBA Secretary Kishor Lambat, now practicing at the Supreme Court, said the transfer would hamper the advancement of judicial infrastructure as HC had issued several directives that break the path. “Our bar association’s enduring threat, and abject embarrassment,” it said.

PILS TRANSFERRED TO MUMBAI SO FAR

Nagpur District Co-operative Central Bank (NDCCB) scam PIL (No25/2014), in which animal husbandry and sports minister Sunil Kedar is one of the accused Suo Motu PIL (No 7/2015) highlighting the plight of litigants and lawyers suffering from scorching temperatures, particularly in Vidarbha, and also for HC annex building Manoj Sable’s PIL (No 67/2015) praying

Remember Gujarat, BJP MLC Vyas warns

Nagpur: The reaction of BJP MLC and party spokesman Girish Vyas over the claim of AMIM’s Waris Pathan has led to a war of words.

After Pathan, Byculla’s former MLA said that the country’s 15 crore Muslims will prove stronger than 100 crore of the rest, Vyas said in an interview to a TV channel that Gujarat of 2002 should not be forgotten.

Vyas stated that he had said so, and also said that it must be understood from the right perspective. “This was a reaction to what Pathan had said for which it was appropriate to file a criminal offense against him,” he said.

Questioning the role of Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, he said the comment by Pathan may hurt the feelings of the group. “If they’re thinking like that, we can’t keep it down and take it lightly,” Vyas said.

“Everyone has the right of the constitution to express their views on an issue. Those statements, however, can only lead to riots, “he said. Tnn
