Fake news about recruitment rally on social media disappoints many

Nagpur: False information spread over social media about a territorial army (TA) recruitment rally to be held in the city led to aspirant crowds entering Sitabuldi Fort on Wednesday.

Even as the message spoke of a rally taking place between 20th and 24th February, on Wednesday itself a number of aspirants reached here. Some were seen sleeping before the gates of the castle, hoping to take advantage of the early birds.

Army officials came across a message in Marathi that a soldier general duty (GD) and trader recruitment rally would take place from February 20-24. The post, which also had a picture of a woman named as a corporation, Surekha Patil. This reported that the recruitment was soldier general duty and 63 tradesmen for 213 posts. There is no corporation in the town under that name.

The sub-area office of the army for Uttar Maharashtra and Gujarat (UMANG), has lodged a complaint with the police in the matter. The office of the defense PRO issued a statement that recruiting for TA is carried out under the aegis of the ARO which, though all major newspapers, advertises the schedule well in advance.

Advertising is not done by social media and there is no question of involvement of any political leader such as the corporator whose picture was in the post, a source added.

Pardi flyover works just 36% complete in four years

Nagpur: Pardi flyover Bhoomi puja, being designed by the Indian National Highways Authority (NHAI), was performed in August 2014. It was supposed to be completed by the end of 2017, but as it is just 36 percent complete on the date and nobody knows when it will open up to traffic.

From the outset, the project had been dogged by delays. The actual work on the flyover started 22 months after the bhoomipujan, in June 2016. It soon ran into problems with land acquisitions. The NHAI still doesn’t have 40 percent of the land it needs for the project as it has done to date.

NHAI still has to receive approval for its portion design over a narrow-gauge line belonging to the South East Central Railway (SECR). MahaMetro is constructing its viaduct in the area and therefore NHAI is not having enough time to do its job. That has slowed the project down.

An official at NHAI said the project required 1.01 hectares of land, but the organization still did not have 0.34 ha of land. “The owners have declined to part with their land and Nagpur Municipal Corporation will have to go in for compulsory purchase. That will postpone the project even further. The project’s initial cost was Rs 448.32 crore, and much has increased, “he said.

Senior officer Samay Nikose, in elaborating on the project’s status, said the flyover had five weapons.

“The center is Piazza HB City. There are 30 spans to the arm towards Pardi and all of them are complete. There are 33 spans on the Itwari arm and only 10 total. This is where we face problems with land acquisition.

There are 10 spans toward the Rani Prajapati Junction on Central Avenue and we were unable to complete even one. The issues here are both land and alignment with the MahaMetro viaduct. The Manewada arm has 27 spans, but due to a narrow-gauge railway line and MahaMetro viaduct none was complete, “he said.

A rotary is being installed on HB Town Square and piling work is underway.

“The road on the Kalamna arm is 11 meters full on the right side (RHS) and 7 meters on the left side (LHS) on the service roads,” Nikose said. On LHS, except at Hanuman Temple Square, 7-meter patch was built in Pardi’s neck.

Seven-meter patch on RHS is ready and the curing is on. The service road to Manewada is 7 meters ready on RHS while the road to Itwari arm is 11 meters complete on RHS.

Beware of the fraudsters, board watches the misdeeds

Nagpur: The Divisional Board of Nagpur discreetly trains and exercises supervisors /invigilators of the exam centers to recognize bogus hall tickets through which dummy candidates appear for exams. It was a result of this’ reading’ that one such dummy candidate was identified and handed over to police on Tuesday by invigilators.

Ravikant Deshpande, chairman of the divisional board of Nagpur, said, “We were vigilant in such cases and gave our supervisors a detailed briefing on how to identify such fraud. They, in effect, have qualified the invigilators. “The board sends separately a list of the candidates with their images to each exam center, which can be reviewed by the invigilators at any time.

Some instances of impersonation are referred to popularly as ‘totyagiri’. With advances in printing technology and software for photographic photography, the production of partially fake hall tickets has become easier. In part, because the hall ticket has eventually to be authorized by the principal of the college.

Ashok Gavhankar, Vidarbha Junior College Teachers Association (VJUCTA) general secretary said, “The ticket to the hall is a printout that one downloads from the approved site. So it’s just a piece of paper on which the student is present with a scanned photo. This is confirmed by the principal of the college who signs and certifies with the seal of the university.

Many unscrupulous characters threaten to superimpose a fake candidate’s photo on the hall ticket and then forge the principal’s signature and stamp. A highly risky gambit to combat these cases, as the board has brought in checks and balances.

Madhusudhan Mude, president of the Headmasters Association (HA), said, “The board also sends a sheet with names and pictures of the candidates to every exam center. This can be used by invigilators to cross-check whenever there is a question as to the legitimacy of a nominee. It will be stupid of anyone trying to forge a ticket to the hall, as they are likely to get caught.
