The Nagpur Municipal Corporation has developed a dedicated noise pollution complaint portal. Furthermore, it comes with a strict 3-hour deadline for police to act on every complaint. If the police station does not respond in time, the complaint automatically escalates to higher officers.

This system was developed by NMC’s IT department following direct orders from the Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court. Moreover, it will be available as both a web portal and a mobile application. As a result, Nagpur citizens can report noise violations from anywhere — with photos, videos and even live decibel readings as evidence.

How the NMC Noise Complaint Portal Works — Step by Step

The portal has been designed to be simple and trackable. Here is the complete process for filing a complaint.

Step 2 — Complaint Filing: Users select the type and source of noise violation. Options include loudspeakers, DJs, construction activity, vehicle horns, industrial noise and firecrackers.

Step 4 — Evidence Submission: Citizens can upload photos, videos and audio recordings. Furthermore, a live decibel meter feature inside the app allows users to record actual noise levels at the time of the violation. As a result, complaints come with measurable, verifiable evidence.

Step 5 — Reference Number: After submission, the system generates a unique tracking number. Therefore, citizens can monitor their complaint status online without calling anyone.

Step 6 — Three-Hour Deadline: The concerned police station inspector must act within three hours of the complaint being filed.

Step 7 — Auto-Escalation: If the police station does not act within three hours, the complaint automatically goes to the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP). Furthermore, the ACP then has one hour to resolve it. If still unresolved, the complaint escalates directly to the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) for immediate intervention.

The platform will be accessible to three agencies simultaneously — Nagpur Police, the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) and the district administration. The municipal commissioner, divisional commissioner, district collector and police commissioner will all have access.
