‘GSI an infra-development role model’

Women’s T20 World Cup: India Reach Maiden Final Against England Due To Rain Washed

Nagpur updates:- Sparking demands for the International Cricket Council to include reserve days in future events, India reached a maiden women’s Twenty20 World Cup final on Thursday after their last four clashes against England were washed out.

The undefeated team of Harmanpreet Kaur was due to face the Sydney Cricket Ground 2009 winners, but the rain started to pour early in the day with hardly any let-up. The umpires called it off without a ball being bowled, with a minimum of 10 overs per side required for a result and no break in the weather. Normally, a Twenty20 match needs five overs per side but the rules are different for ICC tournaments.

Four-time Australian champions are scheduled to take on South Africa in the second semi-final today, with that match also under pressure.

Without a reserve day, the two-group highest-ranking teams move into the final if a play is not feasible. That would pit India against South Africa on Sunday at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, where organizers hope to attract 90,000 plus fans, denying Australia a chance to defend their crown.

Sad’ for tournament A reserve day for the final is needed and some players have criticized the lack of one for the semis, with England captain Heather Knight among those calling for change.

“If both semi-finals are lost the tournament would be a sad time,” she told reporters ahead of the match. “It’s definitely going to be a shame if it happens and I’m sure there’s going to be a lot of pressure on the ICC to change that.” Cricket Australia chief Kevin Roberts said he was seeking clarification from the ICC to add a day of the reserve with the weather in Sydney looking alarming, but the request was denied.

“We’ve asked the question and it’s not part of the playing conditions and we’re accepting that,” he told SEN radio in Melbourne.

“It gives you a reason to reflect and think about how you could change things in the future, but going to a tournament with a set of conditions and rules for playing, I don’t think it’s time to tinker with the rules.” It’s not the way India wanted to make the final, but they deserve to be there as the only undefeated team that went through the group phase.

They’ve defeated Bangladesh, New Zealand and then Sri Lanka since launching their campaign by upsetting Australia.

While the whole team played well, teenage batting prodigy Shafali Verma excelled, seeing her rise to the top of this week’s ICC T20 batting rankings, aged just 16.

She is only the second Indian to cross number one after Mithali Raj, dragging veteran New Zealand’s Suzie Bates down to the second.

Before this year India, ranked four in the world, had made three semi-finals and lost each time, including against England at the last World Cup.

Women’s Day 2020: Girls from Maharashtra will serve as ‘a day collector ‘

Nagpur: In a novel initiative ahead of Women’s Day, Maharashtra’s Buldhana District Administration is offering bright girls from government schools the opportunity to act as’ collectors for a day’ with a view to boosting their morale and inspiring them to do better.

The projects will also raise awareness among girls about the administration’s working and how it tackles social and other issues, sources told Buldhana Collector Suman Chandra Wednesday.

“As part of the project, bright and meritorious girls from the Zilla Parishad schools get an opportunity to be the collector for a day and sit on the chair to have a first-hand governance experience,” Chandra said.

This would also give the girls a chance to determine what changes they’d like to introduce to society if given such a chance, she said. “The idea is to make the girls feel more confident and motivated towards their target, and to encourage other girls around them to perform better and break the glass ceiling,” said the collector.

It’s simply sowing ideas in their minds, she said, adding that it’s a reflective collectorship in which they get a new perspective to observe the day. “Today Maria, a Class 9 student from Malkapur taluka Zilla Parishad College, came here to join us.

She will be attending a census conference and will understand how the survey is being carried out. She will oversee the census activities training program, “Chandra said. It’s to introduce them to government and administration as “seeing is believing” she said.

“They get an audience for a day, and we also get them to write a diary in which they take note of their experience and their vision of society. During an International Women’s Day program, they will be reading and sharing their experience, “she said.

Poonam Deshmukh, a bright Class 8 student from the school of Padoli Zilla Parishad, served as a collector on the first day of this novel drive and supervised the administrative work. She interacted with reporters, took part in the’ Lokshahi Din’ (Democracy Day), and took stock of the district’s unseasonal rainfall. “She expressed joy over her experience and went home as a girl of greater confidence,” Chandra said.

The district administration also celebrates the present seven days as the’ Pink Week’ with an emphasis on the wellbeing of women. “A woman in her pink health would keep society in good pink,” Chandra said. All of the district’s primary health centers are undertaking the campaign to ensure women have good health.

District administration has arranged a screening for anemia, breast cancer, cervical cancer, and common diseases that can not be conveyed. “All these efforts are being made to concentrate on women’s welfare and eventually, their long-run empowerment,” Chandra said.

Central Government requires airlines to sell passengers Wi-Fi in-flight services

On Monday the Union government issued a notification declaring that all airlines operating in India are now eligible to provide their passengers with Wi-Fi in-flight facilities.

“The Pilot-in-Command may enable passengers on board an aircraft on the flight, via Wi-Fi on board, to access Internet services when a laptop, smartphone, tablet, smartwatch, e-reader or point of sale system is used in flight or aircraft mode,” said the notification.

While taking delivery of their first Boeing 787-9 aircraft at Everett last Friday, Vistara CEO Leslie Thng had said it would be India’s first aircraft to provide Wi-Fi connectivity in-flight.

The Telecom Commission approved in-flight connectivity earlier in 2018, enabling voice and data calls as well as data surfing inside Indian airspace.
