Change old schemes to suit current water requirements

Nagpur: Current water availability implies the need to develop sustainable methods to make efficient use of it. With land costs increasingly multiple, the initiation of new projects has become difficult. So earlier schemes should be modified to adapt to current requirements, said on Wednesday JM Sheik, Gosikhurd project board superintendent engineer.

He spoke at an event jointly organized by The Institution of Engineers ‘ Nagpur center, Nivrutta Abhiyanta Mitra Mandal (MSEB) and Sinchan Sahayog to commemorate the Irrigation Day. Every year at Maharashtra this day is observed in memory of former chief minister Shankarrao Chavan.

At the program held at AB Kottewar Hall of the institution off North Ambazari Road, SS Doifode, MD Date, SG Deshpande, and BD Deshmukh attended.

Taking the example of Israel’s rapid and impressive technological progress, Sheik said, “The stakeholders and the workforce have innovative courses of action to make constructive use of seawater in agricultural fields. This illuminates the importance of water reuse.

Speaking of the history of various irrigation acts that came into play from the beginning, Sheik said, “Before the state was founded in 1960, the area was divided up into the provinces of Bombay, Central, and Hyderabad. Various laws surrounding agriculture came in with different sectors.

Vidarbha, who was in the Central Province, had to follow the 1931 Madhya Pradesh Irrigation Act. “He said,” The 1976 Maharashtra Irrigation Act was brought into force to stimulate the participation of people. The quota was set for farmers and they got to know the rights. “Date read a report on the Sahyadri Mountain Ranges or the Western Ghats as they are popularly known in his welcome address. He has given information on the density of rainfall in some areas.

“Due to the decline of the forest cover in the state, rainfall was on a decline. Even after efforts by the state government in Konkan and Marathwada regions, there is a shortage of water for agricultural use, “he said.

Deshmukh said, “All occupations demand to learn. It means acquiring knowledge of the concepts and their implementation. We’ve focused on irrigation department difficulties and shed light on suggestions.

Follow IAP recommendations to promote a healthy lifestyle for children: Doctors

Nagpur: Pediatrists in India drew up and published Indian recommendations on unhealthy foods in October 2019 after more than a decade of adopting international standards and observing local food habits. Now, the national implementation of these recommendations is required. According to veteran pediatrician Dr. Piyush Gupta, president-elect of the Indian Association of Pediatrics (IAP) on Sunday, parents, schools, and government should come together for this job.

“In Indian children the consumption of junk foods, ultra-processed foods, nutritionally unhealthy foods, caffeinated/colored/carbonated products, and sugar-sweetened foods/beverages is rife. IAP has coined the new’ JUNCS’ acronym for all such foods, “said Dr. Gupta, who headed the IAP research team that issued these recommendations.

“Initially we recommended a ban on the sale of JUNCS foods in and near school canteens. We have also recommended ensuring healthy snacks and meals are available and affordable. This must be taken further by helping schools and government authorities, “he said.

Dr. Gupta delivered the late Dr. DG Gan oration sponsored by the Nagpur Chapter of the Academy of Pediatrics (AOP). He talked about the latest IAP guidelines regarding junk food, fruit juice, and energy drinks. During this process, Dr. Shubhada Khirwadkar was elected as president while Dr. Mustafa Ali was appointed as secretary of the chapter of AOP Nagpur.

“Not only parents and schools but also many pediatrists were unaware of last year’s IAP guidelines. Such guidelines are appropriate and most essential for our children’s healthy lifestyles, “Dr. Khirwadkar said.

Padmashri Dr. Rani Bang previously spoke about responsible parenting in modern times. She appealed to the parents to avoid being a part of the rat race for their children. “Rat race winners will only remain rats throughout their lives and will never become tigers or lions,” she said.

The event was attended by AOP Patron Dr. Uday Bodhankar, President (2019) Dr. Ravindra Bhelonde, Secretary Mahesh Turale, Vice-President Dr. Vinky Rughwani of the Maharashtra Medical Council (MMC), and pediatricians from across Vidarbha.

Protest at lawyers push to switch 3 imp PILs to Mumbai

Nagpur: City lawyers strongly protested on Friday that two significant Public Interest Litigations (PILs) were moved to the Mumbai headquarters of Bombay high court. The lawyers are already at loggerheads with outgoing Chief Justice (CJ) Pradeep Nandrajog over the sudden transfer to Aurangabad of Zaka Haq justice, which was considered “unnecessary.” The cases were transferred on CJ’s directives by the HC registry, the lawyers argued.

While defining the move as “shocking and deliberate,” the lawyers sent a request to President Gauri Venkatraman of the High Court Bar Association (HCBA), asking her to convene a meeting of the general body on the “serious” issue immediately and to initiate necessary action. Unable to contact Venkatraman while Secretary Prafulla Khubalkar did not pick up calls.

Lawyers challenged the reason behind the move of the three PILs to Mumbai. Furthermore, there was no demand from any party concerned, as in the case of NDCCB, where the alleged kingpin Sanjay Agrawal had filed a request for the case to be moved to Mumbai. “HCBA’s suo motu PIL was concerned with the construction of a new annex building for HC administration offices and staff, as well as lawyers, in the city. We don’t understand the purpose of forwarding the case to Mumbai, “they said.

The move came as a surprise for some who pleaded for the PILs. “They didn’t even take care of making our intimate on the transfer. There is no denying the fact that it is the prerogative of the CJ, but there should be some reasoning for it.

I would like to ask them if they think that judges at the Nagpur Bench are not sufficiently competent to decide on such matters, which are also related to the city. The HCBA should now strongly address the issue Endorsing him, Bhandarkar, who pleaded in one of the transferred PILs for petitioner Manoj Sable, said the HC regularly passed specific orders as a result of which various court infrastructure was strengthened. “Transfer news came like a bolt out of the blue.

The whole legal fraternity is totally stunned and visibly disturbed. For the lawyers, it is very demotivating, as they put a lot of effort into gathering the material and studying the subject, “he said.

The request also signed by former HCBA Secretary Kishor Lambat, now practicing at the Supreme Court, said the transfer would hamper the advancement of judicial infrastructure as HC had issued several directives that break the path. “Our bar association’s enduring threat, and abject embarrassment,” it said.

PILS TRANSFERRED TO MUMBAI SO FAR

Nagpur District Co-operative Central Bank (NDCCB) scam PIL (No25/2014), in which animal husbandry and sports minister Sunil Kedar is one of the accused Suo Motu PIL (No 7/2015) highlighting the plight of litigants and lawyers suffering from scorching temperatures, particularly in Vidarbha, and also for HC annex building Manoj Sable’s PIL (No 67/2015) praying

Fake news about recruitment rally on social media disappoints many

Nagpur: False information spread over social media about a territorial army (TA) recruitment rally to be held in the city led to aspirant crowds entering Sitabuldi Fort on Wednesday.

Even as the message spoke of a rally taking place between 20th and 24th February, on Wednesday itself a number of aspirants reached here. Some were seen sleeping before the gates of the castle, hoping to take advantage of the early birds.

Army officials came across a message in Marathi that a soldier general duty (GD) and trader recruitment rally would take place from February 20-24. The post, which also had a picture of a woman named as a corporation, Surekha Patil. This reported that the recruitment was soldier general duty and 63 tradesmen for 213 posts. There is no corporation in the town under that name.

The sub-area office of the army for Uttar Maharashtra and Gujarat (UMANG), has lodged a complaint with the police in the matter. The office of the defense PRO issued a statement that recruiting for TA is carried out under the aegis of the ARO which, though all major newspapers, advertises the schedule well in advance.

Advertising is not done by social media and there is no question of involvement of any political leader such as the corporator whose picture was in the post, a source added.

Beware of the fraudsters, board watches the misdeeds

Nagpur: The Divisional Board of Nagpur discreetly trains and exercises supervisors /invigilators of the exam centers to recognize bogus hall tickets through which dummy candidates appear for exams. It was a result of this’ reading’ that one such dummy candidate was identified and handed over to police on Tuesday by invigilators.

Ravikant Deshpande, chairman of the divisional board of Nagpur, said, “We were vigilant in such cases and gave our supervisors a detailed briefing on how to identify such fraud. They, in effect, have qualified the invigilators. “The board sends separately a list of the candidates with their images to each exam center, which can be reviewed by the invigilators at any time.

Some instances of impersonation are referred to popularly as ‘totyagiri’. With advances in printing technology and software for photographic photography, the production of partially fake hall tickets has become easier. In part, because the hall ticket has eventually to be authorized by the principal of the college.

Ashok Gavhankar, Vidarbha Junior College Teachers Association (VJUCTA) general secretary said, “The ticket to the hall is a printout that one downloads from the approved site. So it’s just a piece of paper on which the student is present with a scanned photo. This is confirmed by the principal of the college who signs and certifies with the seal of the university.

Many unscrupulous characters threaten to superimpose a fake candidate’s photo on the hall ticket and then forge the principal’s signature and stamp. A highly risky gambit to combat these cases, as the board has brought in checks and balances.

Madhusudhan Mude, president of the Headmasters Association (HA), said, “The board also sends a sheet with names and pictures of the candidates to every exam center. This can be used by invigilators to cross-check whenever there is a question as to the legitimacy of a nominee. It will be stupid of anyone trying to forge a ticket to the hall, as they are likely to get caught.

BJP calls for a ban on Shivaji’s controversial book

Nagpur: BJP leaders demanded on Monday that a controversial book on Maratha warrior king Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj be banned and that the author and publisher be targeted.

Party spokesperson Shivrai Kulkarni and MLC Girish Vyas, addressing a press conference, said the author Vinod Anavrat had disrespectfully mentioned Shivaji Maharaj in the book published by Sugava Prakashan. “While the book isn’t available freely on the market, it’s popular with many people. The author has attempted to portray Aurangzeb and others larger than Shivaji Maharaj, “Kulkarni said.

He further claimed that Mangesh Khonde, Kishor Jadhav, Jagdish Kambe, Rajesh Kitkule, Yogesh Nimkar, and others had already filed a complaint with Amravati police.
Vyas claimed 50 lakh illegal immigrants from Pakistan and Bangladesh came to Mumbai.

He requested that CM Thackeray and home minister Anil Deshmukh immediately order those immigrants to be identified and expelled by police.
