Nagpur Railway Station Underground Parking Ready to Open Before Dussehra 2026

Nagpur Railway Station is about to offer its first world-class facility as part of its ongoing redevelopment project. The Nagpur Railway Station underground parking 2026 facility on the western side of the station has been completed and handed over by the Railway Land Development Authority to the Central Railway’s Nagpur Division management. The facility will open for public use within the next two to three days, ahead of Dussehra. Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Aman Mittal confirmed that preparations to launch the service are in full swing.

What Is the Capacity of the New Underground Parking?

The newly completed underground parking facility can accommodate 1,600 two-wheelers and 290 four-wheelers simultaneously. Entry and exit ramps are fully ready. Barriers have been installed at the entry point to manage vehicle flow. The parking layout follows clearly marked bays, giving visitors an experience similar to what they would find at a modern airport parking facility.

Lifts have been installed to connect the underground parking level to the ground floor of the station premises. Staircases provide an additional option for passengers. Signage boards in white on blue backgrounds will guide visitors from the parking area to the station exit. These static boards will be upgraded to digital signage in the near future.

How Will the Entry and Exit System Work?

The new underground parking brings a completely revised entry and exit system for vehicles arriving at Nagpur Railway Station. The new vehicle entry point has been created on Tekdi Road, just before the city bus stop located in that area. All cars and two-wheelers must now enter through this new gate.

Two lanes are currently operational. Vehicles using the drop-and-go facility will enter from the left side of the underground parking ramp. Parking vehicles will proceed directly into the underground facility. A second exit lane will become operational once some additional construction work in the vicinity is completed.

Will There Be a Pre-Paid Auto Rickshaw Booth?

Yes — and this is another long-awaited development for Nagpur Railway Station commuters. A new pre-paid auto rickshaw booth is being set up on the ground floor of the station complex, close to the underground parking exit. This service is also expected to launch within the same two to three day window as the parking facility.

Station authorities are currently finalising the number of auto rickshaws that will be permitted to stand at the booth at any given time. The pre-paid system will ensure that passengers get auto rickshaws at regulated, meter-compliant rates rather than having to negotiate on the spot.

What Else Is Being Demolished and Built as Part of Redevelopment?

The underground parking is just the first visible milestone of a much larger redevelopment project for Nagpur Railway Station. Two massive foot over bridges measuring 108 metres and 210 metres in length are planned to directly connect the western and eastern sides of the station. Two elevated concourses will also be built.

To make way for this new infrastructure, the old reservation counter building and the RMS building, which was over 100 years old, have already been demolished on both sides of the heritage station building. The Railway Protection Force building and the old air-conditioned waiting room structure have been partially demolished. Passengers will eventually be able to reach their platforms directly via these new foot over bridges without navigating the current ground-level congestion.

What Does This Mean for Nagpur Commuters?

For the millions of passengers who use Nagpur Railway Station every year, the underground parking is the first tangible sign that the redevelopment project is delivering real results. Nagpur is one of India’s most important railway junctions. The station currently handles a very high volume of daily passengers, and chaotic parking and vehicle management have long been a pain point for everyone using the facility.

The new underground parking, with its airport-style layout, lifts, and organised entry system, will bring a dramatically improved experience for those arriving by private vehicle. Combined with the upcoming pre-paid auto booth, it will make the immediate station area far more organised and accessible.
