Nagpur Vidhan Bhavan Expansion: 80-Metre Road to Close, MSIDC Announces Diversion Routes

A short stretch of road between Forest Office Chowk and RBI in Nagpur is set to close to make way for the Vidhan Bhavan expansion. The Maharashtra State Infrastructure Development Corporation (MSIDC) says alternative routes will keep traffic moving across the area.

Which Road Will Be Closed?

The closure covers only an 80-metre stretch of the road running from Forest Office Chowk towards RBI. It lies alongside the Nagpur Municipal Corporation’s triangular plot and has been proposed for closure so construction can proceed smoothly.

MSIDC has stressed that this is the only section affected. All other roads in the area are expected to stay open, and traffic on the Zero Mile to Forest Office Chowk road will continue as usual.

Diversion Routes for Motorists

MSIDC has set out the following alternatives:

  • From Zero Mile towards BSNL: The road in front of the Government Printing Press gate stays open. Vehicles can use it to reach BSNL, Samvidhan Chowk and RBI Chowk.
  • From Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan towards RBI: Vehicles can travel via Zero Mile and Vidhan Bhavan Chowk to reach RBI Chowk.

Signboards and Extra Police Deployment

MSIDC and the traffic police have jointly directed that clear signboards and direction boards be installed near the closed stretch and at every diversion point. To handle rush hours and prevent jams, additional traffic personnel and Home Guards will be deployed.

Authorities have asked commuters to follow the alternative routes, observe traffic rules and cooperate with the police to avoid inconvenience.

What Commuters Should Do

  1. Avoid the 80-metre Forest Office Chowk to RBI stretch once the closure takes effect.
  2. Use the Government Printing Press route if heading from Zero Mile towards BSNL, Samvidhan Chowk or RBI Chowk.
  3. Plan extra time during peak hours, when traffic may be heavier.
  4. Follow the new signboards at each diversion point.

Closure Is Still a Proposal

The report describes the closure as proposed. A separate NMC public notice invites citizens’ objections within 30 days, so the final decision is still pending. See our earlier story on the NMC notice (link your previous article here).
